CHATHAM AREA WOMAN REPORTS UFO
REFERENCE: Reel T-3292, Record Group 24, Vol. 17984, 940-5, Part 1
This is the transcript of a hand-written letter from a woman in "Raleigh" Township. I can't find the township, however, based on other clues in the letter I place her near Erie (or Erieau) beach, south of Chatham on the north shore of Lake Ontario. The envelope is postage stamped "AM VII 30 52" which I assume is the morning of Jul 30 and the letter is rubber-stamped "DAI JUL 31 1952" which I assume it the day it arrived. That would places the date of the sighting the previous Saturday morning, making it July 26. She reports sighting a "fiery ball" over Lake Erie that remained stationary for five minutes.

Dept - Re - Flying Saucer Reports (STAMPED: DAI JUL 31 1952)
Ottawa, Ontario

Dear Sir:

Since hearing the many reports of "Flying Saucers" the past few
days. We had better report, that my husband and I saw an unusually fiery
ball -- much larger and I believe nearer, than any star in the heavens
over Lake Erie last Sat. 3 am. when my alarm clock wakened me to take a
        capsule.

I looked into the bright star studded sky over the lake to the south
and saw this orange-red coloured ball and as I watched a piece of fiery
stuff seemed to drop or was spun off it. It was seemingly hanging
stationary there for the 5 minutes I watched it.

Then I wakened my husband and he agreed it wasn't a star, more like a
comet, as much too large for a star.

I've compared its colour & size to the stars and believe it to be
        different.

Cannot say when it disappeared but now am sorry I did not watch it
        longer.

I did check the heavens the 2 following mornings at that time as I
had to take capsules then, but saw nothing either time like that.

We are located close to Cedar Springs Rifle Range on lake front in
Raleigh Township, off Raleigh-Harwich Townline on the North Shore of
        Lake Erie.

Shall watch anytime I am able to, for a re-occurrence of same.
My husband can verify this, we do not panic or scare easily but feel
you should have this report for what it is worth.

                                               Sincerely Mrs. [-CENSORED-]
                                                [-CENSORED-] St.
                                                Chatham, Ontario
